The Renewed Hope National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme (RH-NHGSFP), under the leadership of its National Program Manager, Dr. Princess Aderemi F. Adebowale, continues to drive sustainable school feeding initiatives across the country. In line with this commitment, ActionAid Nigeria, in collaboration with key government agencies and the Women and Children Health Empowerment Foundation (WACHEF), has launched the Innovative Action for School Feeding Programme in Taraba State.
The initiative was officially launched in Gembu, Sardauna Local Government Area, and is being implemented in the Mayo-Ndaga and Sah-Kaka communities. It aligns with the objectives of the NHGSFP under the National Social Investment Programme (NSIP), reinforcing the government’s dedication to combating malnutrition, improving school retention, and enhancing the well-being of children in underserved communities.
Speaking at the event, Dr.Princess Adebowale emphasized the critical role of the RH-NHGSFP in addressing child nutrition challenges, increasing school enrollment, and fostering local economic growth. She noted that a well-structured school feeding programme has the potential to boost enrollment by 30% and reduce absenteeism by 50%, thereby strengthening the foundation for Nigeria’s educational and economic future.
She further highlighted the programme’s contribution to social investment by improving nutrition, supporting local agricultural production, and creating economic opportunities for women-led cooperatives. Stressing the need for sustainable school feeding solutions, she reiterated the government’s vision to institutionalize school feeding as a long-term intervention, ensuring that children from vulnerable communities receive nutritious meals that enhance their cognitive and physical development.
The Executive Director of WACHEF, Jaafar Ahmad Magaji, also underscored the impact of the programme, stating that it aims to provide nutritious meals for 800 children, thereby improving their health, academic performance, and overall development. He described the initiative as more than just a feeding programme but a commitment to ensuring every child has access to quality nutrition, ultimately fostering their well-being and educational success.
With the continued efforts of the RH-NHGSFP and the support of key stakeholders, the government remains steadfast in its mission to expand school feeding interventions, empower local farmers, and enhance the livelihoods of communities across Nigeria.
